Athens University of Economics and Business participates in the ERC Synergy Grant

The Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) participates in the European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant through the "Water-Futures" research project. The total funding amounts to ten (10) million euros. The main researcher of the project is Professor Phoebe Koundouri, of the School of Economic Sciences of AUEB and Director of the Research laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability - ReSEES.

The Water-Futures project, a collaboration between four internationally recognized researchers, aims to develop a theoretical framework for decision-making and promotion of urban water supply systems. The main goal is to make these systems socially equitable, cost-effective and environmentally sound, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. These next-generation water systems will use new technologies to integrate real-time monitoring and control, with long-term robustness and flexibility.

The President of the European Research Council (ERC) Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, commented: "The ERC Scientific Council devised the Synergy Grants to provide a space where ambitious researchers could join forces to meet multifaceted scientific challenges. Each of the selected research teams is aiming at an important breakthrough."

Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, Rector of AUEB, referring to the research project, says: "AUEB's participation in ERC Synegry Grant, one of EU most prestigious grants, is a significant success for the University and Professor Phoebe Koundouri. AUEB faculty’s participation in important international and European research initiatives, significantly strengthens the scientific activity of the University and serves its constant commitment to excellence in research.
