OPA RUN 2021:

A celebration for everyone at Pedion of Areos

 

On Sunday, October 31, 2021, more than 1000 students, members of the teaching-research and administrative staff of the Athens University of Economics & Business, local residents, area professionals and running teams, met "All together for Pedion of Areos", in the 3rd OPA Run. The Run, which again this year was co-organized by the Athens University of Economics & Business and the Attica Region, is part of  AUEB’s Volunteer Program "AUEB Volunteers" and consists its chief social responsibility action.

For the 3rd year, the goal of the event was to promote Pedio of Areos as a place friendly to the citizens, along with the promotion of a healthy lifestyle. In addition, for the first time this year, OPA Run focused on raising public awareness on environmental protection.

The OPA Run was supported voluntarily by 100 students and was held under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens and with the support of the International Olympic Truce Center, the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Athens and the Panhellenic Gymnastics Association.

The message of OPA Run, as stated by AUEB’s Rector,  Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, is "to make Pedion of Areos again a field of life and a pole of attraction for both the residents of the city and the members of AUEB’s community". The Governor of Attica, George Patoulis, congratulated the organizers of the event and stated that "the actions, which promote sports & a healthy living and contribute to public awareness, will increase."

The Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Angelos Syrigos, stated that “the Athens University of Economics and Business is a living cell of the city’s center and OPA Run proves its direct link with the local community. The State will continue to support similar actions”.

The President of the Organization of Culture, Sports & Youth of the Municipality of Athens,  Mrs. Niki Arabatzi in her greeting statement claimed that: "due to this event the emblematic open green space of Pedio of Areos is highlighted and at the same time it passes on to the public the message of respecting and protecting the environment".

The Sports event was also attended by AUEB’s Rector and Vice Rectors and by lots of  people.
