In the context of cooperation between the Department of Statistics of the Athens University of Economics and Business and ImedD - a non-profit organization promoting and strengthening transparency, validity, and independence in journalism - Professor Dimitris Karlis, Deputy Head and Director of the graduate program M.Sc. in Statistics, participated in the International Journalism Week and the event:

with the provocative speech entitled How NOT to lie with Statistics

The public was greatly interested hence the advertised speech was fully booked. Saturday's session ended after half an hour of discussion that covered a wide range of general interest topics such as "How can we trust science when even the scientists don't agree on the numbers". The Department of Statistics undertakes to repeat the event at the University campus for those who could not attend.
