STEcon Research Group of the Department of Informatics of AUEB received two new European projects
Two new European projects were recently awarded to consortia in which the “Services, Technologies, and Economics” STEcon research group, of the Department of Informatics of AUEB, is a partner. The group is headed by Professor George D. Stamoulis and belongs to the “Theory and Economics of Informatics and Systems” Laboratory. Both projects, namely OntoChain and iFLEX, are funded by the competitive Horizon 2020 framework of the European Union.
In particular, project OntoChain (Trusted, Traceable and Transparent Ontological Knowledge on Blockchain), coordinated by European Dynamics Luxembourg, will develop an economically sustainable ecosystem for the distributed support of smart contracts and reliable transactions on the basis of the blockchain and crypocurrency technologies and reputation mechanisms. The total budget of the project is 6 million €, while the budget of AUEB is 295.000 €.
Moreover, project iFLEX (Intelligent Assistants for Flexibility Management), coordinated by the Finnish research center VTT, aims to promote and enhance the participation of the consumers’ participation in demand response programs in smart energy grids, e.g. during peak demand periods. The project will develop software to assist consumers in determining their flexibility with respect to their energy demand in a way that is beneficial both for them as well as for the other stakeholders participating in the grid. The total budget of the project is 5 million €, while the budget of AUEB is 435.000€.
In both projects, STEcon research group has a leading role in the evaluation of cost-benefit of the solutions to be developed, in the analysis of the relevant business models, and in the development of technically implementable incentive mechanisms that would render these solutions beneficial for all players (win-win).
