Two undergraduate students of Athens University of Economics and Business awarded with first place at Piraeus Climathon 2020 competition

Two undergraduate students of Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) awarded with first place at Piraeus Climathon 2020 competition, which took place online at 11th – 12th December 2020.

The team, consisted of Petros Apostolakis (Department of International and European Economics, AUEB), Eva Papanikolaki (Department of Economics, AUEB) and Samuel Evaggelou (University of Piraeus).

Seeking for a solution for cleaner and more sustainable cities, the team invented App to You, a mobile app which combines sustainability, civil engagement and the promotion of a cellular economy. The app can be used by both the citizens and the local government, but also by local businesses. Regarding the citizens, the app focuses on providing them with information and resources, creating a recycling award system, but also creating networks among the community where the people are given the opportunity to organize several events as well as second-hand exchange networks. Local Businesses can use the app to schedule their waist pick-ups by the municipality services. The local cleaning services can use the app to monitor their navigation and picking up routes. Amongst 6 other teams, the App to You team won first place in the competition and got to participate in the European Climathon Awards. The idea will be coming to life, in collaboration with the City of Peiraeus.
