Dr Ioannis Thanos is Assistant Professor of Management at the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece. Previously, he worked in the UK as Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management and PhD Director at Lancaster University Management School, Lancaster University and as Lecturer in Management at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. He holds a BSc in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business, an MSc in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Warwick, UK, a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Business Administration from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He has received and been shortlisted for several teaching awards at Lancaster University and University of Glasgow.

He has substantial experience as trainer for companies and speaker to conferences and events and has delivered several workshops on Management, Strategic Management, Leadership and Change Management for organizations in the following countries: England, Scotland, France, Tunisia, Hungary, Island, Greece, etc. He has taught in Executive MBA, MBA, MSc and PhD programmes at the following universities: Lancaster University (UK), Sheffield University (UK), University of Glasgow (UK), École des Ponts Business School (France), Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece), National and Kapodistrian University (Greece).

Dr Thanos is Associate Editor of the European Management Journal, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK and sits on the editorial board of Journal of Knowledge Management and Frontiers in Psychology. He has edited two special issues for the European Management Journal has acted as Representative at Large of the Strategy Process Group, Strategic Management Society.

His research interests are in the areas of Management, Strategic Decision Making, Mergers and Acquisitions and Internationalization Processes of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He has published in journals including: British Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Strategic Organization, International Small Business Journal, International Business Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, European Management Journal, Journal of Strategy and Management, Journal of General Management, Strategic Change, M@n@gement. He has also published several book chapters in edited volumes and books (e.g., Handbook of Decision Making, Wiley; Handbook of Mergers and Acquisitions, Oxford University Press; Advances in M&As, Emerald; Progress in International Business Research, Emerald) and has presented more than 30 papers in top international conferences including the Academy of Management Conference, the Strategic Management Society Conference, the British Academy of Management Conference, the European Academy of Management Conference, European Group for Organizational Studies etc. He has also acted as session and track chair in several international conferences.

He has received several nominations and distinctions for his research activities (e.g., two times nominated for the best conference paper award of the Strategic Management Society conference, and EIBA conference) and is the recipient of the Journal of Strategy and Management best paper award.
