Eugenia’s primary field of research is International Macroeconomics. A line of her work, published among others in Journal of International Economics, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and International Journal of Central Banking, examines fiscal policy related issues. Topics include the interaction of fiscal consolidation with tax evasion and corruption, the effects of fiscal austerity at the zero lower bound in a currency union, the impact of the public wage bill on private productivity, and the spillover effects of public infrastructure spending.

Her latest research focuses on the macroeconomics of migration by investigating the interaction of fiscal austerity with emigration in the Greek Depression and the macroeconomic effects of migration shocks in Germany during post-2006 (published in European Economic Review). Eugenia has also recently co-edited a volume on Understanding Migration with Macroeconomics.
