Professor in the Statistics Department, Athens University of Economics and Business. He obtained the Engineering Diploma from the Electrical Engineering dept. of the National Technical University of Athens (1982), the M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University (1983), and the Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University (1986). He was Assistant Professor in the Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences dept. at Northwestern University (1986-1993), and Associate Professor in the Industrial and Mechanical Engineering dept. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1993-1997). Since 1997 he has been in the Statistics dept. of the Athens University of Economics and Business.

His research interests focus on Applied Probability, Operations Research, Risk Theory, and Production Control. He has published numerous articles in journals such as the Journal of Applied Probability, Stochastic Processes and their Applications, Operations Research, Management Science, Queueing Systems, and the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control. In 1990 he received the Best Publication Award from the TIMS College on Simulation. He has served as Graduate Program Director in the IME Dept. at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (1995-1996) and in the Statistics Department at the AUEB. (2003-2006), and as Head of the Statistics Department at the AUEB (2006-2008).
