AUEB for the Environment

In 2010 the transition of the University heating system from oil to natural gas was completed mainly due to the lower intensity of carbon dioxide (CO2).

The replacement of all old lamps with new low energy consumption category A lamps in all campus buildings brought about a reduction of 82% in the emissions of pollutants attributed to their use.

At AUEB we focus on the following categories of recycling:

a) recycling of toners and ink cartridges

b) recycling of light bulbs

c) recycling of paper

d) recycling of batteries

e) frying oil recycling.

Simultaneously, with the aid of technology, AUEB develops processes that further reduce its environmental footprint, for example the electronic signature and electronic protocol (Papyrus). Large quantities of paper no longer need to be used; registering, filing, and exchanging information are everyday tasks executed electronically.

AUEB has adopted the use of green roofs for its buildings; they create cool conditions and do not consume oxygen in cities without charging energy. In the planned procedures, the replacement of the old energy-intensive frames is also a priority.

Integration of ecological criteria when placing orders for equipment, so that the supplied items contribute to the protection of the environment, and their utilization does not damage nature.

An Environmental Policy Committee has been set up to draft a Code of Environmental Ethics to be implemented in the community.
